Ed’s verdict

I don't think you can go wrong with either platform. If your priority is realism, recoil and externals, go VFC; if it's out-of-the-box accuracy, reliability, cold-weather performance and aftermarket support, go MWS. If it's your first gas blowback and you've got the budget, I'd probably say buy the MWS first. Even so, I'm definitely leaning towards buying more VFCs, because once you charge it, release the bolt and pull the trigger and it just kicks, there's something special to it.

What he said, by aspect (from The VFC vs MWS Debate Is Over — Here's Who Actually Wins…)

build“externals-wise, it's very, very hard to beat a VFC gas blowback” at 12:53
gas power consistency“if I've just filled this up, it's spitting gas a lot easier than the MWS one is” at 38:49
chrono consistency“you're going to be firing it through a chrono and it's just going to be closer than that” at 26:11
accuracy range“out-of-the-box accuracy, MWS is going to win” at 25:34
reliability failures“bolt lock-wise, I've probably had more reliance with the Z plate system. It just works really, really well” at 35:47
ergonomics“I love the VFC triggers. They have this like plank to them, which just is so nice” at 22:58
value“I don't think you can go wrong with either. I think either are great” at 45:00
parts support“aftermarket upgrades, MWS are going to win that 100%” at 32:49
externals fidelity“They build their lowers specifically so close in detail to a real steel” at 16:33

Out of the box

No chrono test on camera. Ed quotes typical stock FPS ranges: VFC ~385-400 (some run hot), MWS ~350-400 but on the lighter side. Out of the box: VFC wins recoil, power and externals; MWS wins accuracy, chrono consistency, cold-weather performance and gas efficiency. Mag prices quoted: MWS $45-55, VFC $50-60, Guns Modify Evo ~$70 at ~35 rounds. Replica prices mentioned: VFC PDX ~$750, VFC M4 CQBR/SOPMOD $600+, Ghetto Blaster ~$399, one import at $280 with two mags.
