Ed’s verdict
I'm impressed with the VFC HK33 so far — it's doing exactly what I wanted, and the chrono consistency is super consistent. Out of the box it's hovering around 310 FPS on 0.25s at about 1.15 joules, but I'd love it nearer 350-400 and I suspect there's a limiter in the bolt like my G36C had. The stop-on-empty magazine issue that stopped it firing after a reload could be really frustrating, so I'll put a test shot out after reloads. It's lightweight, wieldy and comfortable, and at about $475 it's not cheap but not bad for a new gas blowback. Well done VFC — with a 6.05 barrel, a new bucking and the limiter out, I think this could be a really nice, different battle rifle.
What he said, by aspect (from VFC's HK33 Gas Blowback — An Overlooked Battle Airsoft rifle…)
| build | “very like lightweight rifle... polymer lower trigger pack part here metal mag well metal upper” at 01:49 | 7 |
| gas power consistency | “it's obviously going to have mad cool down... dropping a couple of FPS every few shots which is kind of normal” at 27:55 | 7 |
| chrono consistency | “it's very consistent like this thing is super super consistent” at 30:01 | 9 |
| accuracy range | “we'll do that in a future video and we'll test the range of this thing” at 32:10 | — |
| reliability failures | “that's the issue I had yesterday so it just did not fire” at 26:06 | 6 |
| ergonomics | “it's long but it's very wieldy” at 02:05 | 8 |
| value | “it's not cheap but it's not that too bad in terms of like a new gas blowback replica” at 22:21 | 7 |
| parts support | “there are lots of different like rail claw mounts... there's M lock hand guards that you can get” at 11:19 | 7 |

Problems he hit
Failed to fire after reload; tied to magazine stop-on-empty follower tab position, resolved by repositioning the follower · 26:06
Stripped screw on VFC claw mount during install; Ed says the metal on some VFC hardware 'just isn't great' · 13:36
Mag loading issues: one mag previously 'didn't take that many rounds'; brand-new mag took 28 of 30 · 23:51
Out of the box
310FPS
0.25BB weight (g)
1.15Joules
30Mag capacity
475Price quoted
Chrono on 0.25g: first string 301-324, 'hovering around that 310' at ~1.15J; full auto ~12.8rps (one 11.2); fell to ~280 (~1J) on cold near-empty mag. First brand-new mag took 28rds, others 30. Ed suspects a bolt limiter and wants 350-400 FPS after upgrades. Price 'about four hundred and seventy five dollars'.
Caveats
- FPS/joules are approximations from Ed's string of chrono readings (301-324 on 0.25g), not a single stated figure; ~280 on a cold near-empty mag.
- Accuracy/range not tested in this video; Ed deferred it to a future video.
- Stripped-screw issue concerns the VFC claw mount accessory hardware, not the rifle itself.
- Ed's 'takes the same mags as the HK33' remark is ambiguous since the product is the HK33; likely a slip.
- All scores are inferred from Ed's language; he gave no numeric ratings himself.
