Ed’s verdict
At $280 with two 30-round mags included, the Olympic Arms AR-15 by VFC is an absolute bargain and, in my view, the best value gas blowback platform you can buy. It's very, very well built, super comfortable, and the V3 system gives you a VFC AR base you can mod however you want. I haven't actually played a game with it yet, so I can't speak to on-field performance. Even after roughly $40 in tariffs it came to about $320, which is why it's my favorite of the five under-$400 picks.
This is a VFC-made Olympic Arms AR-15 GBB on the V3 system, and at $279 with two VFC gas mags that normally run about $60 each, I think you're getting a very, very good deal. The finish is really nice, it's nicely weighted, and the trigger has zero take-up with a short reset — it's like a perfect trigger. I haven't chronoed or game-tested it yet, but I know this system and how well it works. If you like the externals, or you can do something with them, I can't see why someone wouldn't get it.

Caveats
- No chrono, accuracy, gas efficiency, or game-use data for the primary product; Ed has not fielded it yet.
- The third replica (9mm AK GBB, $299 at tiger111hk) is never named by brand or model in the transcript.
- EMG Noveske NH7 comments are second-hand; Ed says he has not played with one himself.
- FPS figures Ed cites (~320-330 for the AK, 350-400 for the MCX) are read from retailer listings, not his own chrono testing.
- All quoted prices exclude shipping and tariffs, which Ed says can push some picks over $400.
