Ed’s verdict
The AK-105 is exactly what I was expecting — it feels very, very similar to my AKS-74U, with full steel externals and a very solid kick. Out of the box on 0.25s it chronoed around 308 fps at about 1.12 joules — roughly 345 fps on 0.2s — which is perfect for the UK market, and after one low first shot the consistency was within five or six FPS. It didn't lose pace at all through a full-auto mag dump, and these VFC AKs are known for gas efficiency. I don't love the wobble in the top handguard and cleaning rod — I need my replica to be solid — so I'm excited to build it out with new furniture. I think this is going to be absolutely awesome, though it's going to take a lot for it to beat my AKS-74U.

Problems he hit
Wobble/movement in cleaning rod and top handguard; Ed wants it 'solid' and plans to replace the handguard · 07:16
Side optic mount prevents the folding stock from folding ('a little bit annoying') · 20:01
First chrono shot low (294.6 fps) before settling into 304-311 · 28:21
Out of the box
308FPS

6FPS spread
Chrono on 0.25g: first shot 294.6, then 304-311; ~1.12J ≈ 345fps on 0.20g — 'perfect for the UK market', maybe light for US. Rate of fire 11.5-11.7 rps. Full-auto mag dump on one fill with no loss of pace.
Caveats
- Unboxing/first look only — no accuracy, range, or long-term reliability testing; full review promised later
- 'Nine dumps per gas fill' is secondhand from another creator's video, not Ed's own test
- AKS-74U used for comparison is fully customized, not stock
- No price quoted for the base AK-105; only that the tactical version costs ~$75-100 more
- Chrono used a ~20-second gas fill vs Ed's usual 12 seconds
