Ed’s verdict
The Tokyo Marui Hi-Capa 5.1 is my top tip for a first gas blowback pistol — incredibly good performance for what it is, very snappy, very accurate, with a huge amount of aftermarket parts. The Action Army AAP-01 is very very cheap at around $100 with a full-auto option, and the Elite Force Glock is a very very good platform at around $150; WE Glock 17s are more affordable with very good out-of-the-box performance, though the build quality isn't quite as good. I probably wouldn't recommend the VFC FNX-45 or P320 as a first pistol — I've had performance issues and they're known to have them. Don't make a gas blowback pistol your only replica — get an AEG primary first — and I nearly always run green gas over CO2.
